The African Methodist Episcopal University, in an effort to promote graduate education, scholarship, and research; to support graduate students, faculty, and programs in the pursuit of excellence; to foster innovative activities, and to maintain high ethical and academic standards in graduate studies in the University, established the African Methodist Episcopal University Graduate School and Professional Studies Council referred to as the “Graduate School Council”, as the policy and governance advisory body for graduate education.

The purpose of the Graduate School Council is to advise the Dean of the Graduate School and the Vice President for Academic Affairs on all matters appertaining to graduate education policies and programs and to ensure good academic standards and practices.

The Graduate School Council shall advise the Dean concerning graduate education policies and the review of graduate degree and professional certificate programs.

 

The Graduate School Council shall recommend requirements for graduate degrees within the framework of the University policy and that of the National Commission for Higher Education of Liberia. These shall include requirements for admission, retention, and degree completion.

 

The Graduate School Council shall review all curricular matters, normally, every three years for recommendation to the University Council and the President for final approval. Programs not reviewed after four years shall be reviewed during the subsequent year.

                                                                     

The Graduate School Council shall participate in the construction of the Strategic Plan of the University with respect to Graduate Programs.

 The Graduate School Council shall review proposals for new programs from graduate program coordinators to the Dean of the Graduate School for possible recommendations to the University Council. If approved by the University Council, they shall take effect only upon approval by the President of the University. Each program shall be responsible for continual evaluation, adjustment, and improvement.

 The Graduate School Council shall act on behalf of the University with respect to academic standards and practices.

The Graduate School Council shall refer appropriate issues for deliberation to the Graduate Program Coordinators.
